WOMEN'S HEALTH WITH WALKING PROGRAM
The Henry and Stark County Health Departments announce in honor of National Women's Health Week, they offered special screening and health education clinics to participants of their Women Out Walking program on May 12th.
RaeAnn Tucker-Marshall, Health Department Public Information Director, states, "The Health Department has received a special grant to conduct a 'Women Out Walking' (WOW) program in Henry County. The Department is partnering with other county employers including the Henry County Courthouse and Hillcrest Home to recruit 100 women to participate in a 10-week walking challenge."
Tucker notes, "National Women's Health Week encourages women to make their health a top priority and take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. We thought we would reward the participants of our WOW program by offering them free blood pressure, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis vaccination, and bone density screenings. The clinics were held at the Courthouse and Hillcrest Home during working hours so that our ladies could take advantage of these important health checks."
Tucker-Marshal adds "The WOW program has been extremely well received.
We have 20 five member teams competing. In addition, to encouraging the teams with their walking goals by providing pedometers and walking logs; the Health Department has also provided Health Education noting the benefits of walking, healthy lifestyle changes and eating habits."
